Jacksonville City Hall
Still very much inspired by my recent trip up to Northern California and Southern Oregon, I chose to depict Jacksonville City Hall; located in the small and historic town of Jacksonville, Oregon. The town itself is beautiful, both in its historic architecture and in its scenery, that I really wanted to showcase some of that in this piece.
I really enjoyed the digital illustrative processes and techniques used in California Theatre, that I wanted to try and further explore incorporating patterns and focusing on certain set color schemes more in my work, at least digitally.
With this one, I really wanted to focus on what the background pattern could be form the very beginning of it’s creation, instead of as an after thought. The building itself looked very old and historic especially with the adornments on the windows and on its tower, that that was something I really wanted to try and highlight in some way for this illustration.
With that in mind, I chose to have a very muted color scheme; focusing mainly on the natural greens and browns. For the background, I chose to have a muted green circular pattern to both help in highlighting the circular features in the arched windows, but also to emphasize the red bricks that are predominant in the architecture of the city hall building itself.
