Hi, Iā€™m James Guthrie.

I am a traditional artist currently living and working in Phoenix, Arizona. I recently received a Bachelors in Fine Arts degree in Art with an emphasis in drawing from Arizona State University in hopes to further pursue my interests in art and in an arts-based career.

I am heavily inspired by traveling and tend to create artwork based off of those experiences. My art falls into the category of realism dealing mainly in compositions focusing on landscape or architecture. I have worked with various different mediums and materials ranging from drawing and painting to wood and fibers, but I primarily work with drawing mediums such as pen and ink, graphite, and chalk pastel.

Currently, I am in the beginning stages of starting my own business and hope to sell locally in the Phoenix area in the coming months. My goal for my business is to have a cohesive balance of both commercial art and fine art; giving me the ability to create affordable work and prints for many, yet also giving me the opportunity to further continue making original work for galleries and individuals.

Artist Statement

As an artist, my goal is to artistically and accurately display the beauty I see in the people, structures, and environments around me in my art.

Using personal images as a reference, either from my own travels or from moments taken from the past that are meaningful to me; I bring back to life these moments in time through the process of artistic recreation, keeping in mind the stories that are being told, while also using the medium itself as a way to highlight the more intimate and intricate characteristics and attributes in each representation.

Though these captured moments are fading and will ultimately be forgotten over time, I am able to use this mode of expression and recreation as a means to preserve and retell those memories artistically into something that is both personal yet also beautiful.
